Welcome! In the late summer of 2005, Hurricane Katrina ended the life we had known for 27 years. We had used our hands to restore beauty to neglected pieces of furniture. It took only a brief period of time for our life, our home, and our business to end.
We are still winding our way around the labyrinth of FEMA, the Road Home Program, and the rules of the Small Business Administration. We have decided that life, home and business must continue. A new workshop has been installed and instead of just refinishing furniture, we have decided that building furniture will be added to our work. We specialize in reproductions of period pieces, especially armoires.
When people see Rick Chatelain's hands, they comment that they know he has worked hard. Those hands have loved furniture back to original beauty.
Now, Rick's hands are creating Chatelain's Furniture. The armoires are latter 19th Century American design. Made from the poplar tree, or any wood of your choice, the reproductions have the same features as the originals.
Friends and family say and we know that we could have sat back and felt sorry for ourselves and grieved the life that was taken from us under nine feet of water. Although we miss our home in Chalmette, Louisiana, we have decided to make a new home and a new life in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. Our new business gives us hope for a better future.
